The aQuellé Midmar Mile is more than just the world’s largest open water swimming event — it’s a celebration of endurance, community spirit, and the pure joy of swimming in the beautiful Midmar Dam, near Howick in KwaZulu-Natal. Each year, thousands of swimmers come together in this iconic event, but there’s a special group that goes the extra mile — actually, eight extra miles!

The incredible swimmers of the 8 Mile Charity Challenge take on the demanding task of swimming eight miles over the Midmar Mile weekend, all while raising funds for causes close to their hearts. Among these heroes are the swimmers who choose to support CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA, dedicating every stroke to children and teenagers bravely fighting cancer and life-threatening blood disorders.

By backing our CHOC 8 Mile swimmers, you’re helping to provide vital support services: safe accommodation near treatment centres, transport for families in need, psycho-social care, bereavement support, and so much more. Your generosity empowers our swimmers to raise the crucial funds that make these services possible — bringing comfort, hope, and strength to families during their toughest battles.

Every stroke they swim is a stroke of hope. Every donation brings us closer to changing a child’s life. Join us — cheer, swim, support — and be part of this wave of compassion and endurance.

Together, we can make every mile count for children facing cancer.
