The 2025/26 aQuellé Midmar Open Water Season is reaching its defining moment.
With all seeding events complete and the Prime View Swim Festival now behind us, the focus shifts firmly to the final build-up — and the excitement is unmistakable. Preparation is near complete, seeding is set, and attention now turns to what it has all been building towards.
All roads lead to the iconic 53rd aQuellé Midmar Mile on 7–8 February, where thousands of swimmers — first-timers, veterans, families, teams and elite athletes alike — will once again stand together at the water’s edge.
In the days leading into race weekend, our fearless Charity Challenge athletes will take on their extraordinary 8- and 16-Mile swims, embodying the purpose, resilience and spirit that define the Midmar Mile.

aQuellé awarded the Energy Storage Project of the Year at ENLIT Africa 2025
ENLIT Africa brings together key industry leaders to tackle Africa's energy and water challenges. aQuellé’s solar project, including a substantial battery installation of 11.6MWh, was nominated by Standard Bank, the platinum sponsors of the event. The aQuellé Midmar Mile is one of the world's most iconic open water swimming events, held annually at the picturesque Midmar Dam in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. Since its inception in 1974, the event has grown from a small local race to a massive international spectacle, attracting thousands of swimmers from around the globe. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Drakensberg Mountains, participants swim across the crystal-clear waters edge of the dam, covering a distance of one mile. The event caters to swimmers of all ages and abilities, from elite athletes to recreational swimmers, making it a truly inclusive celebration of open water swimming. With its festive atmosphere, live entertainment, and strong community spirit, the aQuellé Midmar Mile has become a beloved tradition that brings together families, friends, and swimming enthusiasts for an unforgettable weekend of sport and camaraderie.
